A staple in my grandmother's, mother's and my fridge, this Mint Cilantro Chutney is evergreen (no pun intended) and super versatile. It can be used as a spread or as a dip or even made thinner into a delicious gravy. Make it ahead of time and keep it in your fridge for days. Not only is it zingy and tasty but also healthy with its phytonutrient rich cilantro and mint, and healing foods like ginger and garlic.

1 cup fresh coriander (cilantro) leaves
1 cup fresh mint leaves
1/2 small onion (roughly chopped)
2 cloves garlic
1/2 inch fresh ginger (peeled and chopped)
1 green chili peppers (optional)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2-3 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon cumin seed powder
salt to taste

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until a thick paste is formed. Add more water if needed to achieve a pesto-like consistency.
  2. Store in a clear dry container in the refrigerator and use as needed. It can be served cool as a dip or as a spread in sandwiches.
